Shalfleet School

New Front Entrance with Pre-School and
Babyroom Extension

The original school building at Shalfleet, built circa 1850, is a two storey stone built structure incorporating an entrance and single classroom.
The school has, of necessity, been enlarged over the intervening years to accommodate ever growing numbers of children. The extensions to date have been largely unsympathetic to the original structure and have grown organically rather than in a planned manner.

In 2010, the School needed to be enlarged and reorganised again, this time to accommodate Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, to enhance the Reception area to provide secure access for all children and to incorporate Early Years provision. This was achieved after careful analysis of the school needs, its existing premises and the school site.

The extensions and upgrades were made possible by the rationalisation of the site, relocating existing timber out buildings to create greater area for extension to the rear of the of the school and replacing existing dilapidated buildings.

This development allowed Shalfleet Primary School to increase its intake by 24 children, with an additional two new full time members of staff.
